Journal Entry 10.22.23

I mapped our trek out of Tsum. It is not your typical map with lots of technical information and precise measuring. It was not a map showing altitude, and grade, with misspelled place names. It is a map that describes my memories and experience and shows where the landslides are, and the place we stopped for tea, and the place where the river slows down and flattens out and we cross the sand deposits like we are marching across a desert, and where the rocks gets sharp and hard to walk on, and where the steps are, and the waterfall outlook, and the waterfall we will always associate with rude trekkers. My map reminds me of my experience and the things I pay attention to. My map describes the moment you can finally see the snow capped mountains in the distance, and where I also believed I could not go on but I did. It is my map of my time in the mountains. It is my memory of place and experience. I have drawn my existence. It is my story of this moment in time.
